Cell Phone Reception

Cell Phone Reception

Postby racing933 » Fri Dec 16, 2016 6:24 pm

All,

While I would love to go into Airplane mode for 4 days, and not make a single call, but that is not possible. How well do the cell phones work to call USA?

Any prior advise would be helpful.

I had good luck. Verizon allowed me to use my data and voice plan for only $10/day. Prearranged. The LTE data was frequently faster than the wifi.
No one I talked to knew I was out of the USA.

I used AT&T to make calls and text back to the USA with no problem. I turned the data roaming off and just used the WiFi at SPAV to access everything else.

I used Whatapp and was able to text and call USA using the SPAV Wi-Fi, no addition charges. May be some draw backs up I didn't experience any.

I used Rogers "Roam like Home for CAD 10.00/day" allow me to use my phone as I am in Canada. However data is very slow, so you may connect with wifi when you will in resort. Else phone signals are good; my switch back and forward to Claro and Orange.

Re: Cell Phone Reception Data????

I have Cricket Wireless (it uses ATT network). They said that I will have Cell phone and text capability, but no data connection for email/web etc.
My Verizon never was a problem.
Has anyone been successful with BOTH cell AND data using ATT in DR?
Thanks,
Super D

I have AT&T and had no problems, however I did have to sign up for the international plan (for $10usd per day while there) had no issues with data, I let my Chica stream you tube videos for the music both at costa Caribe and the beach. however when we were at Franks, I hooked into Wi-Fi. Next Saturday for me :D

Others have written about the resort and local town. I have AT&T. Reception was generally good.

I will just add that the only time I lost reception was when I went on ‘safari’ inland. Away from the coast in the sugar cane fields and cocoa plantations, I was without reception. But that was only for a few hours while touring.

I need the data connection mostly for Google translate when I am away from the hotel. I doubt I will have problems with cell phone reception.

Hi SuperD. Google translator has an option of downloading offline languages that you can use when not connected to internet. Also Microsoft translator has same option.
